Portuguese wine with screw cap

>> Monday, June 12, 2006

Perhaps like swearing in church? Portugal is the world’s biggest producer of natural cork (made from bark from the cork oak tree). Miguel Champalimaud, owner of Quinta do Cotta in Duoro has announced his intention to be the first Portuguese wine producer to bottle wines with screw cap. But the reason that he gives for switching is not problems with corked wines. It is price. He estimates that he will save 20 cent per bottle with screw cap. Reuters.com
