The EU farm commissioner wants to cut wine subsidies

The EU farm commissioner, the Dane Mariann Fischer Boel, has said in an interview in the Financial times that she wants to cut the subsidies for production of cheap wine that finds no buyers. The EU has recently given 145 million euros to France and Spain to subsidise “crisis distillation” of cheap wine that no one wants but in return Fischer Boel wants the countries to take action and grub up more vines.
